Everything we need to know about picnicking (and drinking) during a Hollywood Bowl
May 17, 2016 - Picnic Time
With a conflict of summer concert season comes an LA sermon of passage: picnicking at a Hollywood Bowl. The iconic amphitheater is a high place to see a show, interjection to a halcyon bank environment in Hollywood and a consistently stellar lineups. But Hollywood Bowl regulars know that wining and dining outdoor before a uncover is a pivotal to making the knowledge that most some-more noted (and for snagging a primo parking spot). Before we go, here’s all we need to know about a Bowl’s cruise and ethanol policy.
BYOB is A-OK
A unison venue where we can move a possess wine? We’re in love. The Hollywood Bowl permits concertgoers to move booze bottles, booze eyeglasses and drink bottles onto a drift and inside a venue itself. However, we can’t chuck a full-blown celebration during a Bowl: no kegs or tough booze are allowed. And don’t consider about taking that celebration to the parking lot, instead—tailgating is quite prohibited.
There’s one critical premonition to a ethanol policy: franchise events. Most of a summer shows during a Hollywood Bowl are constructed by a LA Phil, though a few outliers are listed on a calendar with a “Lease Event” banner. Those mostly non-summer shows (primarily May, Jun and October) have their possess policies, including no alcohol; you’ll have to buy any drinks inside a grounds.
Once inside a venue, you’ll find dual full use restaurants as good as countless takeout windows with an endless booze list. There’s also an choice to preorder prepared cruise boxes.
What else to bring
You’re acquire to move tiny containers, cruise baskets and coolers. However, any containers we move have to be means to fit underneath your seat. If we have a ruler handy, that means nothing larger than 15″ wide, 15″ high or 22″ prolonged (this is also loyal for franchise events). It might sound small, though it shouldn’t be a problem to container all we need; we’re consistently astounded any summer with concertgoers’ compact, quick and stylish cruise gear.
Where to picnic
You could only cocktail a hunker on a quell somewhere, though a Hollywood Bowl has 14 designated cruise areas on site. The parking lots and their adjacent cruise spots open 4 hours before to showtime, and we endorsed display adult as early as possible if we positively wish to pledge a chair and a table. It’s totally kosher to have one chairman go and explain a list for a rest of your group.
Nearly all of a cruise areas are located along parking lots. Highland Camrose Park and a area behind a Hollywood Heritage Museum are quite shadowy (but also popular); these are also open to reservations for groups of 30 or some-more people—have fun—through the Group Sales Office (323-850-2050). You’ll also find a few tiny cruise areas only outward of a seating area; a gates to a Bowl open dual hours before exemplary and jazz shows and franchise events, and dual and a half before all other concerts.
Here’s a useful map of all of a cruise spots below:
