October 8, 2014 - Picnic Time
This past Sunday was a large day in Kansas City.
The American Royal grill was going on. NASCAR was in city for a biggest competition of a year in Kansas, a Kansas City Chiefs were personification a San Francisco 49ers on TV and a dear Kansas City Royals were personification postseason ball during a K.
But it was an early morning and mid-day journey of apple cider, cider doughnuts and apple-picking that was on this chef’s mind.
I did a small investigate during a week and found an apple orchard in Kansas City, Kan., that sounded really interesting, so we really put Cider Hill Family Orchard on my journey menu for a day.
But first, a Sunday morning in a tumble would not be a same though a stop for internal cider doughnuts and, of course, uninformed apple cider from Dunn’s Cider Mill in Belton, right opposite from Loch Lloyd Country Club off Missouri 150.
We arrived during Dunn’s Cider Mill to many informed faces watchful in line, out a doorway for a oh-so-warm and famous cider doughnuts. The Dunn family has been creation cider doughnuts given 1977.
The whole family is behind a counter, creation a doughnuts, fixation hundreds of them on trays perplexing to keep adult with a demand, and operative a money register. we saw Mr. Dunn and pronounced a discerning hello as we paid for my doughnuts and cider for a family.
I had already contacted my nieces and good nieces and their mothers to accommodate us during a cider mill, so they were anxiously watchful for a comfortable doughnuts and cider as we came out of a stable door.
They had already indifferent a cruise table, and a cider journey had begun. This was not my initial rodeo, so we upheld out a doughnuts to a children, sat behind and watched their faces as they any took their initial bite. Talk about precious.
After about 30 mins of visiting and mapping out a subsequent adventure, we went behind to a cars and trafficked usually 30 minutes, a small bit past a NASCAR racetrack, and arrived off a highway to about 10 cars watchful in line during 139th Street in Kansas City, Kan. Cider Hill Family Orchard opens during noon, and we done it usually in time.
We parked a automobile and walked adult a mountain past a Victorian character residence to a ubiquitous store, where a member of a family was flitting out bags for collecting apples. We were given instructions and shown opposite baskets of several apples that were accessible to pick.
The immature lady also told us there are 950 apple trees on a property, and they have 18 forms of apples, though usually 4 were accessible to collect that day. They indeed start picking in late July.
We were led to a large red tractor famous as a Apple Wagon and given a hayride into a orchards that took usually a few minutes. We all jumped off a car and immediately walked adult to a copious apple trees and started picking.
We walked by a apple orchard stuffing a bags and acid for opposite apple trees. After about 30 minutes, with a bags overfilled, a Apple Wagon came behind and picked us up, dropping off new pickers.
As we rode adult Cider Hill, we beheld that a parking lot had some-more than 150 cars and some-more than 200 people already gathered, watchful to take a hayride by a orchards for their possess apple picking.
Once you’re finished picking apples, Cider Hill also has a pumpkin patch to collect a pumpkin from and an area for a cruise lunch.
They also have a grilled lunch on a weekends. The store sells all from uninformed apple cider and apple butter to kettle corn, cider doughnuts and homemade preserves.
This is one journey that should not be missed. Two good places to make some memories and, of course, a fun time for a whole family.
I returned home and had a tough time selecting what recipes we would prepare with a tasty internal apples. But we finally motionless on some elementary apple dumplings to suffer with a cider. we wish we suffer a recipe we am pity with you. Enjoy a Apple Trail.
