January chill doesn’t moderate renovation of Omaha clan’s post-holiday tradition

As temperatures began descending Saturday afternoon, one Omaha family was picnicking.

Yes, picnicking in Jan — usually in time for snow. It’s a post-holiday tradition for a Suiter family, which, any year from 1975 by 2000, met during Lake Manawa State Park in Council Bluffs for a chili cook-off, prohibited dogs, comfortable apple cider, prohibited chocolate, football, infrequently ice skating and bonfires.
