Today will be a salute to extended service. One is for a longtime firefighter and a other is for a long-lasting marriage.

Michael R. Hargreaves Sr. recently late from his work as a firefighter. He will be 70 years aged shortly and he pronounced it is about time to nap in, listen to some-more stone ’n’ hurl and start operative on that honey-do list.

Mike has late before from Mishawaka as a arch of a Emergency Medical Service (EMS). Those were in a days of Mayor Margaret Prickett when he started in 1977. EMS eventually joined with a glow dialect and he late in 2007.

After that he was a EMS coordinator for Memorial Hospital, and afterwards a Union-Lakeville firefighter and EMT. He indeed late from Lakeville on Dec. 31 though he is stuffing in for himself until a municipality hires a deputy in a subsequent month or so.

He initial fell in adore with firefighting when he was a child flourishing adult in Michigan. “I was 4 years aged and we knew what we wanted to do.” Later he perceived a book called “Kerry a Fire Engine Dog.” “I slept with a book underneath my pillow.” And that cemented his future. Mike started as an associate member in 1963 in Holt/Delhi, Mich., and after as a proffer and paid firefighter around Lansing.

He has been an EMS, EMT, CPR and first-aid instructor. Mike assisted in delivering 39 babies, worked 550 fires, 500 CPR incidents and 15,000 ambo calls. All told, he has 52 years in open safety.

Mike says a genuine favourite is his mother Sharon, who has always been there for him and their 4 children. “I can’t contend no, I’ll still be doing some training classes.”

Now on to adore and marriage. Jack and Jun Landry, of South Bend, distinguished 60 years matrimony on Thursday. Jack pronounced he had had his eye on her for some time during church. He was 16 and she only incited 14 before a church cruise in Jun during a lake in Warsaw.

“I got adult a haughtiness to speak to her and take her home,” he said.

She followed adult by observant to him, “Stop by and see me again sometime.” That was all he indispensable to hear. That was all it took.

Married in 1956, Jack and Jun had 4 children — Jim, Becky Sill, Sally Foster and Mary Colletti. He was a salesman roving around Indiana and Michigan. She worked evenings during a accumulation of jobs.

He pronounced that his mother ran a residence well while he was left so much. On a weekends, Jack gave her breaks for her activities and sorority work.

Both pronounced a pivotal has been commitment. “It is never only me. It needs to be us” in a durability relationship, Jun said.
