What heat? Houston named one of America’s best cities for an outside picnic

Given that Houstonians are now experiencing 100-degree-plus temperatures substantially each day now, it substantially will come as a shocker that a Bayou City has recently been named on Travel+Leisure‘s list of America’s Best Cities for Picnics.

As partial of a magazine’s annual America’s Favorite Cities survey, readers ranked 38 cities on civic indicators such as oppulance shopping, cocktail lounges and hip food trucks. To assistance calculate that cities are a best for picnics, a magazine examined several “outdoor-feast-friendly” rankings, including parks and gardens, epicurean markets, tasty sandwiches, peculiarity booze purveyors and easy weather.

List author Katrina Brown Hunt cites “picnic-friendly epicurean markets and low booze selection” —  recommending a revisit to Revival Market in a Heights — as reasons for a city’s high ranking. Although Hunt mentions that summer temperatures “may have we looking for shade and a breeze,” she recommends a newly renovated Buffalo Bayou Park as Houston’s “best new cruise spot.” 

Noting a city’s high rankings for art (No. 5) and burgers (No. 5) on a magazine’s America’s Favorite Cities list, Hunt also highlights a Menil Collection for a “picnic-magnet lawn” — as good as a “promise of air-conditioned bliss” inside a museum — and suggests circuitously slider corner Little Bigs for some park-appropriate eats.

One other Texas city done a list, with Austin entrance in during No. 15. Hunt suggests a cruise during Zilker Park’s Barton Springs — “since we can always cold off in a 68-degree water” — and during a Betty and Edward Marcus Sculpture Park during Laguna Gloria. With a tip 20 ranking for epicurean grocery stores, Hunt recommends Austin-based Central Market, as good as salumeria Salt and Time and underling emporium Thundercloud, as ideal spots for picking adult tasty cruise treats.
